Hood Latch Release Cable changes during Production |
The SWB Sedan started production with a release cable that had a "T" handle on the end for the operator to pull. The "T" handle bracket is attached to the bottom of the dash. The Coupe and Convertible started production with a release cable that had a lever and bracket. The lever bracket is screwed to the side wall in the footwell area.
At about the same point in production, the SWB sedan switched to the lever actuated release cable and the SWB Sedan, Coupe and Convertible all used a new style lever.
The LWB Sedan was not introduced until after the change-over point and had the later lever actuated mechanism from the start of production.
The early style mechanisms were used on the SWB Sedans up through vehicle 002608, except on vehicles 002598, 002599, 002601, 002605, and 002606.
The early style mechanisms were used on Coupes and Convertibles up through vehicle 002551, except on vehicles 002541, 002542, and 002549.
As a side note, when a Sedan was outfitted with the optional rear heater (not available in Coupes or Convertibles), a completely different hood release cable mechanism is required. These is no change in this mechanism during production but it is different than any of the other mechanisms. The difference is due to the arrangement of the hood release lever and the control for the rear heater.
